Measurements of 13C in CH4 and using particle dispersion modeling to characterize sources of Arctic methane within an air mass

چکیده
A stratified air mass enriched in methane (CH4) was sampled at ~600m to ~2000m altitude, between the north coast of Norway and Svalbard as part of the Methane in the Arctic: Measurements and Modelling campaign on board the UKˈs BAe-146-301 Atmospheric Research Aircraft. The approach used here, which combines interpretation of multiple tracers with transport modeling, enables better understanding of the emission sources that contribute to the background mixing ratios of CH4 in the Arctic. Importantly, it allows constraints to be placed on the location and isotopic bulk signature of the emission source(s). Measurements of δC in CH4 in whole air samples taken while traversing the air mass identified that the source(s) had a strongly depleted bulk δC CH4 isotopic signature of 70 ( 2.1)‰. Combined Numerical Atmospheric-dispersion Modeling Environment and inventory analysis indicates that the air mass was recently in the planetary boundary layer over northwest Russia and the Barents Sea, with the likely dominant source of methane being from wetlands in that region.

Application of AERMOD to local scale diffusion and dispersion modeling of air pollutants from cement factory stacks (Case study: Abyek Cement Factory)
Today, the cement industry is one of the major air polluting industries in the world. Hence, in this study, owing to the importance and role of contaminants from the plant, an appraisal of the emission contributions in addition to other factors have been discussed. There are several reasons behind the importance of modeling air pollutants. First, the assessment of standards for air pollution, a...

متن کاملModeling of Air Pollutants’ Dispersion by Means of CALMET/CALPUFF (Case Study: District 7 in Tehran city).
The current study aims at modelling the dispersion of two pollutants, namely CO (carbon monoxide) and SO2 (sulfur dioxide) released from District 7 of Tehran Municiaplity, from 20 main line sources, by means of CALPUFF modeling system. CALPUFF is a non-steady state puff modeling software which employs meteorological, terrain, and land-use data to effectively simulate air pollutants' dispersion ...

متن کاملVariations in global methane sources and sinks during 1910 – 2010
Atmospheric methane (CH4) increased from ∼900 ppb (parts per billion, or nanomoles per mole of dry air) in 1900 to ∼1800 ppb in 2010 at a rate unprecedented in any observational records. However, the contributions of the various methane sources and sinks to the CH4 increase are poorly understood. Here we use initial emissions from bottom-up inventories for anthropogenic sources, emissions from ...
